Lovdahl, Ian a desert-island album for me. i used to write high school essays late into the a.m. hours listening to this raw noise on YouTube, which ended up solidifying my love of noise music, extreme and experimental compositions, and of course, Lightning Bolt.
"Fleeing The Valley Of Whirling Knives" oughta be shot into space on a golden disk. Favorite track: Fleeing The Valley Of Whirling Knives.

panicpagoda (or Mark) As my teenage mind's tastes branched from straight-up punk to weirder stuff (2007 I believe) I picked up this CD - one hell of an introduction to Lightning Bolt, but in a good way. Right from the get-go it's equal parts intoxicating and abrasive (I played it on my college radio show - some very confused faces strolled by the window.) Inexperienced listeners may find it unbearable, but to me it's aged like a fine wine, perfect to throw on to fry my mind and give my eardrums a workout. Favorite track: Into The Valley.

about

Long sought after, this record has not been available new on vinyl since its first pressing two decades ago. Released as a double LP, the second LP features songs recorded at the same time but never released before on vinyl. Packaged in a silkscreen wrap using the original design by Brain Chippendale, printed by Crosshair. Truly, a must-have for any Lightning Bolt fan.

Since their first moment, it seems like they’ve been as electric as their name suggests. Lightning Bolt, their first album, captures that energy in a raw form. Famously lo-fi, this is the album that’s been described as most feeling like being at one of their shows. It’s difficult to listen and not want to jump with the crowd it feels like must be huddled around the amp producing an incredible wave of noise, astonishingly coming from just two musicians. You can hear the threads of their later work; use of repetition, a sense of grinding and building, noise melting to guitar solos. This album is loud, and the riffs repeated become mesmerizing as they warp slowly thru the songs.
